This 3-day cultural and wildlife experience combines the charm of Rwanda’s rare golden monkeys with enriching encounters in a traditional community. Trek through Volcanoes National Park’s bamboo forests to observe the playful, bright-eyed monkeys, then immerse yourself in local life through a guided village visit filled with dance, storytelling, and culinary traditions.

Day 1: Kigali – Drive to Volcanoes National Park

Day 2: Golden Monkey Trekking & Iby’Iwacu Cultural Visit

Day 3: Scenic Drive – Return to Kigali

Day 1: Kigali to Volcanoes National Park

 

 

  • Warm welcome at Kigali International Airport or hotel
  • Optional city tour featuring Kigali Genocide Memorial or Kimironko Market
  • Scenic transfer to Volcanoes National Park (approx. 2.5–3 hours)
  • Check-in at your eco-lodge nestled in the hills
  • Evening relaxation with volcano views and local storytelling at the lodge

 

Day 2: Golden Monkey Trekking & Cultural Visit

  • Early breakfast and transfer to park headquarters for briefing
  • Trek through the lower slopes of the Virunga Mountains to spot golden monkeys
  • Watch troops of monkeys leaping through bamboo and grooming playfully
  • Return to lodge for lunch and rest
  • Afternoon visit to Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village for traditional dance, banana beer tasting, and insights into Rwandan heritage
  • Evening at leisure around the campfire or spa treatment (optional)

Day 3: Return to Kigali

  • Enjoy a leisurely breakfast surrounded by nature
  • Optional nature walk or lodge-based activity before departure
  • Scenic drive back to Kigali through terraced hillsides and small towns
  • Arrive in Kigali for drop-off at your hotel or airport
